Overview

In pool C's second match of the day, we have a game of bordering countries. Team Finland has started EuroVolley journey with two victories, but is now facing the biggest challenge yet, when they play against rock solid Russia. More spice in to the game adds the fact that long time Finnish national team player and former head coach Tuomas Sammelvuo now coaches the Russian national team. The last time Finland was able to beat Russia, was in 2010 World League match. Russia is the absolute favorite, but can Finland arrange a surprise in front of the home crowd?

“It feels great to be playing this tournament here in Finland, in front of this crowd – and I hope that this tournament can somehow re-start the development, growth and promotion of the Volleyball game in my home country. As for my team, we obviously have a lot to work on – but we cannot speak of those who are not here – and only work with those players we have, hoping to stabilise our game.”

Tuomas Sammelvuo
Head coach of Russia
